FORM 4: 2.1 ANALYSING LINEAR MOTION

THE MEANING OF DISTANCE
Distance is the total path length travelled from one location to another.

THE MEANING OF DISPLACEMENT
Displacement is the distance between two locations measured along the shortest path connecting them, in a specified direction.

THE MEANING OF SPEED
Speed is the rate of change of distance.

THE MEANING OF VELOCITY
Velocity is the rate of change of displacement.

THE MEANING OF ACCELERATION
Acceleration is the rate of change of velocity.

THE MEANING OF DECELERATION
Deceleration is the rate of decrease in speed in a specified direction.

TICKER TIMER
i)           A ticker timer is a device used to study motion.
ii)         A ticker timer will lodge dots on the ticker tape at the rate of 50 dots per second.

TICKER TAPE
The distance between two adjacent dots on a ticker tape represents the object’s position change in a tick or a time interval of 0.02 s.
